Event Description

Effective filtering power: Why do I like it

After we tested one of the wakiwaki bottles, I can honestly say it's something I use a lot when traveling and hiking. Of all the options, it was the one that best suited my particular mode of travel.

The internal filter is suitable for over 100 gallons of water (nearly 6 months of normal use). It's incredible how effective such a small filter can be. The cost of using Clearly Filtered products is low, at just $0.35 per gallon. That's a big savings compared to the $6.40 a gallon you pay for bottled water all the time.

Filling bottles with tap water (for example in towns with water supply problems) is very quick and easy. The water is ready to drink immediately. When you drink it, it gets sucked up by the filter like a straw.

The same goes for using water from a river or pond when hiking in the wilderness. There is absolutely no wait time with this filter. A huge advantage.

Multiple uses

The other thing I like about this version is that it's made of stainless steel. If for some reason the filter is worn out in the field, I can always use a container to boil water over a fire in an emergency.

The water purifier bottle for travel is thin, and easy to fit securely on my backpack, and points are awarded because I can drink it on a bumpy bus without spilling it on myself!

It can remove almost 99 percent of bacteria, metals, pollutants, viruses and even parasites like cryptosporidium from streams and lakes. This is actually better than most filters on the market.

You can easily remove the filter when you don't need it and turn it into a regular, everyday water bottle.

There are a few disadvantages

As much as I really like this water filter, it's not perfect.

The process of drinking through a straw was slower than usual, but not too painful. After the filter "grinds in" a little, it starts to flow faster.

Use a water filter to save money

If you are concerned about water quality while traveling abroad, there are a number of different filtration methods you can use.

  • soluble pieces
  • uv light bar
  • hand pump filter
  • boiling
  • find that all of these options have advantages and disadvantages.

Disinfecting tablets are small, lightweight and easy to use, but they must dissolve for several hours to be effective. Then if you run out, depending on where you are, it may be hard to buy more.

Uv light sticks may seem like a quick way to sterilize water, but they require batteries, a separate debris filter, and a backup set of batteries in case the first set runs out.

Hand-pumped filters can clean dirty water very quickly, but they are bulky and inconvenient to use. Trying to use them when you're not actually hiking just makes you look stupid.

Boiling water can be very effective at removing all bacteria and viruses, but it is time consuming to start a fire, heat it to a boil, and then wait for it to cool every time you need to refill it.
